Registered Charity 84586 5740 RR0001

Halifax 57 Rescue (Canada) is pleased to announce the exciting news of the discovery of RCAF Halifax LW170 which ditched off the coast of Scotland in 1945. The existence of this historic aircraft, which flew 28 combat operations with 424 Squadron - RCAF including D-DAY, was discovered by our group after over a year of intensive research in the British archives. Of the 1,200 RCAF Halifax’s used in combat this Halifax LW170 is the last and only RCAF Halifax known to have survived the Second World War. Over 70% of all bomber operations in the RCAF were done on the Handley Page Halifax.

On our official website at www.57rescuecanada.com contains the full story of the combat history of LW170 along with her amazing story of how she survived the war and the scrap yards of England.

Our historic group has started phase 1 of her location. Recovery efforts will be conducted in the summer of 2005, i.e. during the 60th anniversary year of Victory in World War II. We have prepared a 2 phase project, whereby LW170 would be located and inspected starting in May, 2005 with a proposed recovery from her resting place later this year to bring her home to Canada. Please visit our website for the history, plans, and details of how you can help support our historic project. Progress Report No. 5 gives exciting news of help from the Royal Navy to locate and inspect Halifax LW170.

We eagerly and urgently request the help of all of the Air Cadet League of Canada, including all squadrons and all cadets to help us in our efforts to bring our Halifax home. This would be the greatest tribute we could pay to our Air Force veterans for their sacrifice and efforts in Victory and for our Freedom.

Halifax 57 Rescue (Canada), our members, and supporters must follow the honorable example of our young aircrews of some 60 years ago. We have our target, we must be determined, and we must do as those young Canadians did in the RCAF: "Press on Regardless, whatever the cost..."

We hope to hear from each and every Air Cadet squadron across Canada with your ideas and suggestions for supporting the Halifax Project.

Thank you.
